The Career Center in Calgary is an AAPG benefit for both employers and job seekers. The room is conveniently accessible to the public and meeting registration is not required to utilize this service. We also have private interview rooms available during the hours posted.

The AAPG Career Center helps job seekers and employers connect in an environment specifically designed for petroleum geosciences professionals, saving them both time and effort. AAPG staff will be in the room to answer questions and assist with scheduling interviews, as well as posting resumes and jobs.

Job seekers — bring your resume to post to the Career Center bulletin board at no charge. AAPG members also have the option of posting their resumes online.

Employers — post jobs on our bulletin board and contact us to reserve a table to meet with job seekers or share promotional materials about your company. Those with paid postings to our online Career Center have access to our online resume database as well. Companies may reserve half‐day, full‐day or all three days at no cost. Table must be staffed by your company representative. Limited space is available. Prior to the show, contact our staff to inquire about posting jobs on our website to receive special discounts.

The Career Services Committee, along with the Division of Professional Affairs, propose a career development panel session where four to five panelist discuss the pros and cons of taking a managerial path versus staying technical throughout your geologic career. Along with discussing managerial versus technical paths and all of the variations within, we will also have the panelists talk about how to develop your leadership skills, business skills, mentor skills and also personal skills as your career evolves.


Career Forum: How to Be an Independent or Consultant: Build Your Own Opportunities

This session focuses on strategies for becoming a consultant or independent geoscientist in today’s industry conditions. The presentations are practical guidance for implementing the business and the types of technical services that are most in demand. The presentations also include where to find sources of free and low-cost oil and gas leasing, drilling, completion, and production data, as well as repositories of digital well logs. In addition, sources of low-cost and open source software will be presented. Presenters will share their personal experiences.
