ACE FT 5 | The New World of Energy in Texas — The Largest Natural Gas Liquids Hub at Mont Belvieu and Other Aspects of the Texas Energy Scene
American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and Energy Minerals Division (EMD)
Thursday, 11 June 2020, 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. | Houston, Texas
Who Should Attend
Geoscientists and investors interested in learning about Texas energy fundamentals, complexities and anomalies, with a particular emphasis on natural gas liquids.
Objectives
To gain an understanding of the interplay of crude, natural gas, and liquids infrastructures from market, financial and operational points of view. By visiting Mont Belvieu, the epicenter of the NGL trade, participants will also gain an understanding of the scale, complexity and operation of the NGL value chain from processing to fractionation, storage and transshipment/export. The tour host is one of the largest physical players in the NGL business.
Course Content
The massive changes in U.S. oil and gas production during the shale era have triggered a race to develop infrastructure (such as pipeline “takeaway” capacity and exports) to capture value and fend off price collapse. Texas lies at the heart of these problems and their solutions. Exports of crude, natural gas (as LNG, as well as pipeline gas to Mexico), and natural gas liquids have been vital to the market balance, along with a growing role for domestic and exported petrochemicals. Presentations will review these fundamentals, trace values from product to wellhead, and address NGL revenue streams within today’s capital-constrained investment framework. It will tap leading consultants and representatives from private equity, as well as Enterprise Product Partners Fundamentals group. It will also review Texas’ anomalous negative natural gas and electricity price incidents.
The tour will include an overview of Enterprise Products Partners Houston Regional Operations at Mont Belvieu. This is the world’s largest salt dome. It hosts the largest NGL storage complex, and the largest capacity of NGL fractionators. Some 12 different oil and liquids products are handled, processed and stored at this facility. By the end of the day, attendees will better understand the complexities and vital roles of such facilities, and better appreciate the market, value and revenue implications of ongoing developments in this expanding business.
