Geoscientist Workforce of the Future: Education and Re-Education
Wednesday, 10 June 2020, 3:20 p.m.–5:05 p.m. | Houston, Texas
These newly integrated panel sessions will feature five-minute
presentations from each speaker followed by a 20-minute
moderated discussion between panelists regarding the session
at hand, and ending with an audience participation Q&A using the
AAPG Events Mobile App.
The roles and careers of geoscientists are evolving. In addition to geoscience concepts and processes plus foundational professional skills, the rapid change in technology, the immense increase in information readily available, and the need to integrate different types of datasets require additional data-related skills. The increasingly interdisciplinary nature of the geosciences also implies a need for higher-level communication and interpersonal skills. What are the data, and what to do? The session will begin with a summary of a recent NSF study setting the scene and primarily focusing on student preparation, then add in panelist presentations and discussion including mid-career implications and options as well.
